ABV, or Alcohol By Volume is a measurement of how much alcohol there is in a particular volume of liquid. So it’s not just a clever name or acronym. One method of calculating ABV is by comparing the specific gravity at the beginning of fermentation – Original Gravity (OG) – to the specific gravity at the end of fermentation – Final Gravity (FG). Then with the magic of the Calculate button below, you’ll have a good idea of how potent your brew is.
So here, all you have to do is enter your OG reading you recorded with your hydrometer before you pitched the yeast, and then the FG reading you recorded when fermentation was complete. Click Calculate and get a solid idea of the ABV of your Home Brew.
